Rules for Maritime Training Centre
The rules of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) require that all standards are reviewed every five years to ensure that they reflect the best practice in the particular subject and take into account any lessons that have been learnt during the application of the standard.

The technical committee (TC176) responsible for ISO9001 undertook a global survey of users and customers of ISO9001 and significant needs were determined from an analysis of the responses. The Technical Committee TC176 also issued a document entitled "Quality Management Principles and Guidelines on their Application" (ref. ISO/TC176/SC 2/N130).
This document formed one of the other design inputs to the ISO Working Group responsible for the development of a consistent pair of standards. These standards became ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 9004:2000
