Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems

100_0002ECDIS is patterned after the IMO model course 1.27 and will provides training in the basic theory and use of electronic chart display and information systems. Training comprises all safety relevant aspects which goes beyond the use of operational controls and in which a functional approach is maintained.

Objective
Trainees will be able to: Operate ECDIS equipment; Acquire and develop a knowledge and understanding of the basic principles governing the safe operation of ECDIS, including data, their presentation and system-related limitations and potential dangers; Assess errors, inaccuracies and ambiguities caused by improper data management.

Entry Requirements
At least six months seagoing services performing as Navigational Watch Keeping

Ship Handling and Maneuvering

SHM will improve the ship handling and maneuvering ability of deck officers in the management level.

Objective

Trainees will be able to know: Basic principles of ship handling & maneuvering; Bridge familiarization; Effects of various deadweights, draughts, trim, speed and under keel clearance on turning circles & stopping distances, Williamson turn; Effects of wind & current on ship handling during anchoring of various ship conditions; Squat, shallow water effect, maneuvering through narrow channel, canals and harbors; Proper Procedures for docking & undocking, entering & leaving docks.
