Personal Safety and Social Responsibilty

Personal Safety and Social Responsibility is one of the modules of Basic Safety Course and is patterned after IMO Model Course 1.21.  This course aims to meet the mandatory minimum requirements for seafarers on board for familiarization, basic safety training and instruction in accordance with Section A-VI/1 of the STCW Code.  This course will give new seafarers an insight into the various elements of a ship and working procedures on board so that they adjust to the shipboard environment, and are better prepared to cope with any unforeseen cirumstances.

Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting


Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting is one of the modules of Basic Safety Course and is patterned after IMO Model Course 1.20.  This course aims to provide the training for candidates in fire prevention and fighting in accordance with Section A-VI/1 of the STCW Code.
On meeting the minimum standard of competence in fire prevention and fire fighting, a trainee will be competent to take appropriate measures for the safety of personnel and of the ship and to use fire fighting equipment correctly and have a knowledge of fire prevention.  This course also includes the correct procedure for individual's reaction upon hearing the fire emergency alarm signal.

Personal Survival Techniqes

Personal Survival Techniques is one of the modules of Basic Safety Course and is patterned after IMO Model Course 1.19.  It aims to meet the mandatory minimum requirements for seafarers for familiarization, basic safety training and instruction in accordance with Section A-VI/1 of STCW Code. It covers the requirements of the 1995 STCW Convention and Code Chapter VI, Section A-VI/1. The trainee will be able to survive at sea in the event of ship abandonment on meeting the minimum standard of competence in personal survival techniques.

Elementary First Aid

Elementary First Aid is one of the modules of Basic Safety Course and is patterned after IMO Model Course 1.13. It aims to provide the training for candidates to provide elementary first aid on board ship, in accordance with the STCW code.  It covers the requirement of the 1995 STCW Convention, on meeting the minimum standard of competence in elementary first aid, a trainee will be competent ot take immediate action upon encountering an accident or medical emergency until the arrival of the person with medical first aid skills or the person in charge of medical care on board.

Surface Preparation and Painting

The SPP will improve the skills of seakarers in painting procedures as well as awareness and knowledge of corrosion and its precautions.

This course however has not been conducted for more than 5 years thus it is advised that we shelve this course

Basic Safety and Emergency Course

BSEC is a NIS standard course patterned after IMO model courses 1.13, 1.19 and 1.20 with the addition of the Personal Safety and Social Responsibility course PSSR.

This course is normally required by Norwegian principals among their crew due to its high standards of quality.

Objective
Trainees will be able to demonstrate the ff standards of competence in STCW 1995: Personal survival techniques; Fire prevention and fire fighting; Elementary first aid; Personal Safety and Social Responsibility.
